3 Simple Practices for Daily Regulation


1. Box Breathing (4-4-4-4)

Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, exhale for 4 seconds, and hold for 4 seconds. Repeat this cycle 3–4 times. This technique slows your heart rate, activates your parasympathetic nervous system (your body’s “rest” mode), and clears mental clutter.


2. The 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Method

Look around and name:

  • 5 things you see

  • 4 things you touch

  • 3 things you hear

  • 2 things you smell

  • 1 thing you taste


This method keeps your mind anchored in the present instead of spiraling into what-ifs.


3. The Mini Shake-Out

Stand up and shake out your arms, legs, shoulders, and head for 15–30 seconds. This simple action releases muscle tension and sends a “reset” signal to your nervous system.


Pro tip: Don’t wait until you’re fully overwhelmed to try these techniques. Practice them on calm days so your body learns to access regulation faster when you need it most.
